Financial Conduct Authority investigating pension transfers and advice

In recent years pension transfer advice has been a hot topic and there has been numerous investigations into firms that advised investors to transfer pension assets out of secure pension schemes and into alternative schemes, such as SIPPs, SSASs and QROPS, to facilitate investments that later transpired to be high risk, resulting in investors losing a significant amount, if not all, of their pension assets.
Furthermore, there has been significant warnings issued by the financial services industry regulator about transfers from pension schemes that offered guaranteed benefits in retirement such as final salary schemes into personal pension schemes, SIPPs, SSASs or QROPS due to the financial risks to which this exposed investors pensions.
Unbeknown to investors, in the majority of circumstances the advice to transfer and/or arrangement was unsuitable and investors suffered a loss.
